PLANTAR FASCIITIS
Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes. It typically causes stabbing pain near the heel, especially with the first steps in the morning or after long periods of rest. Contributing factors include overuse, flat feet, improper footwear, or tight calf muscles.
Treatment involves rest, ice therapy, stretching exercises, and wearing supportive shoes or orthotic inserts to relieve pressure on the plantar fascia. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may help reduce pain and inflammation. Physical therapy can strengthen foot muscles and improve flexibility. In severe cases, corticosteroid injections or extracorporeal shock wave therapy may be recommended. Managing plantar fasciitis early can prevent chronic pain and long-term complications, ensuring continued mobility and comfort in daily activities.
